Dear Evan Hansen

I just watched the film, “Dear Evan Hansen”, a musical drama with confused messaging and sub-standard songs. The movie seems to celebrate suicides, and ridicule or ignore those who are merely wrestling with their demons. Evan Hansen consoles grieving parents with a well-meaning lie, and brings comfort to desperate people searching the internet for connection and support. Once the lie is discovered, however, the world turns on him, and this young man, who is already struggling to find personal worth and public acceptance, ends up being humiliated and ostracized. I guess the point of the movie is that it’s better not to try.
